Huang Yu grew up in a family of flute players in Zijing Village, Zhongtai Sub-district, Hangzhou City, East China's Zhejiang Province, and she began to learn flute playing at the age of 7.

After graduating from the Music School of Hangzhou Normal University in 2015, Huang assisted her father, Huang Weidong, to establish a professional bamboo flute company and a training studio, organizing cultural activities and expanding the targeted consumers as well as the marketing channel online.

The Zhongtai Sub-district is famous for its bamboo flute industry. There are more than 160 flute production and accessory processing studios in the area, achieving an annual output of about three million flutes.

The local government and related authorities have encouraged young talents to join the industry and promote traditional bamboo flute manufacturing, sales and marketing through their technical knowledge and professionalism, in a bid to boost rural revitalization as well as the spread and inheritance of the culture.
