Medical workers get ready to offer assistance to Wuhan City, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak and capital of the Central China's Hubei Province. [people.cn]

Huang Yuan, a nurse with the Emergency Department of the Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital and also a mother of an 11-month-old baby signed up to go to Wuhan City, capital of Central China's Hubei Province, to fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

As medical workers from all parts of China have been heading to the city to aid the fight against the COVID-19, Huang and her husband, who are both post-90s medical workers, joined their peers on the front line of anti-epidemic battle.

"The only reason we are determined to come to Wuhan is that we know we are the right people at the critical time when the country and people need us," said Huang.

"In addition, we are parents and we want to set an example for our child, hoping that she will be a person who is grateful and useful to society when she grows up," Huang added. 

Huang has been working in the emergency department for more than eight years. As a medical worker and a member of China's National Emergency Medical Rescue Team, Huang said she should do her part to defeat the virus along with so many other people nationwide who were devoted to the arduous tasks. 

In 2018, Huang was awarded the outstanding League member of Guangdong Province and now she is a Party member.  

"Our medical team to Wuhan has 60 excellent medical workers," Huang said. 

The youngest member is late-90s Liu Xueyan. 

"As a member of the Communist Youth League and a medical worker, the country needs me, as do Wuhan and the patients there," Li said.

Another member, Yu Yanhui, is the youngest doctor in the radiology department and a member of the National Emergency Medical Rescue Team of the Guangdong Provincial Emergency Hospital. When the outbreak started, he immediately signed up to take part in the rescue work. 

Compared with ordinary medical workers, Huang and her colleagues have emergency response rescue skills. They are equipped with basic first-aid skills in addition to good psychological qualities and strong bodies as well as the ability to survive in the wild. 

"We are all specialized and capable, and can back up each other when needed," Huang said. "Sufficiently trained, we have the confidence to do a good job in fighting against the virus."
