To help grassroots women's federation workers improve their legal awareness and ability to protect women's rights and interests, Fujian (in Southeast China) Women's Federation recently carried out a training initiative among village/community-level women's federation workers and women volunteers. The purpose of the initiative was to train all presidents and executive members of grassroots women's federations in Fujian, to help them have a good understanding of and how to use relevant laws by the end of 2023.

Women's federations, at all levels in Fujian, consider the initiative an important part of their participation in building a law-based Fujian, and an important part of their work in raising cadres' awareness of the rule of law. The federations have cooperated with courts and procuratorates, and with the departments of justice and public security, in promoting publicity of the rule-of-law. This year, women's federations in the cities of Fuzhou and Putian, and in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, have worked with the courts and departments of justice to organize legal training for rural family dispute mediators.

Participants said the courses helped them learn about the laws and regulations related to family affairs and women's rights protection. They said they will apply their new-found knowledge in their dispute mediation work.
