Yongchuan District, in Chongqing, Implements an Initiative to Help Parents Solve Problems in Family Education

 September 13, 2021

Yongchuan (a district in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality) Women's Federation implemented an initiative in June to help parents solve their problems in family education. A total of 100 parents took part in two courses under the initiative, in June and July.

For parents of children between the ages of 12 and 17, the organizer gave classes about how to solve children's problems, such as being weary of studying, being addicted to the Internet, and having conflicts with teachers. Methods on guiding children to control their temper and make occupational plans were also taught.

Zhang Xiaohong, President of Yongchuan Women's Federation, said the content of the classes was chosen based on the federation's investigations in recent years. The federation has organized several family education classes in schools, villages and communities across the district during the past three years. Parents, guardians, teachers and children, including those facing difficulties, have participated in the classes. "During the classes, we found that some parents not only needed basic knowledge, but also solutions to the urgent, tough problems facing them," says Zhang.

The teachers of the two courses taught family education knowledge, and offered guidance to participants who had special family education problems. Li Jun, a trainee, said she learned that parents must help their children find activities that can interest them more if they are going to reduce their children's time playing video games.
