Hainan Protects Rural Women's Right to Use Homesteads

ByYao Yao September 22, 2020

To protect women's land-related rights, the Department of Natural Resources and Planning of Hainan Province (in South China) recently promulgated the notice on protecting rural women's legal rights and interests during confirmation of rights to use their homesteads.

The notice clarifies the clauses that address the protection of rural women's legal rights and interests during confirmation of right to use their homesteads, so women can enjoy equal rights with men in the profit earned from renting their homesteads. That will also help women resolve disputes involving their right to use their homesteads.

The notice stipulates that a certificate should be presented to each rural woman to confirm her ownership of her homestead. The notice is also intended to better protect all rural women (including those who are married or widowed, or who have gotten divorced and/or remarried)'s right to use their homesteads.
