Online Lecture on Safety in Summer Vacation Benefits Parents and Children

 August 12, 2020

An online lesson on teaching parents how to protect children's safety in summer vacation was live streamed on August 6 under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission.

As the second one of the series of online lessons designed for women netizens, the lecture was live streamed by China's popular question-and-answer website Zhihu, ACWF's official website and WeChat accounts as well as Kuaishou, a well-known short-video platform.

During the lecture, Wang Dawei, a PhD in education, professor at the People's Public Security University of China and first-grade police commissioner, shared many tips with parents so they can protect their children more effectively.

Using case analysis and nursery rhymes, Wang introduced prevention measures to protect minors from dangerous situations that may occur during summer vacation, which include drowning, Internet addiction, epidemic exposure, home invasion, sexual assault and getting lost.

The lesson has received a total of 4.81 million views.

The online lesson was also an important part of the campaign of caring for children in summer vacation launched by the ACWF, the Ministry of Education and nine other organs and people's organizations.

By mobilizing social forces, connecting resources and organizing voluntary services, the campaign aims to create a safe childcare environment that addresses the needs of all youth — including children in need and left-behind rural children whose parents have migrated to other places for work.

The campaign calls for local women's federations, civil affairs offices, education and other departments to design and carry out activities with local characteristics for the targeted children.

Parents are advised to search the websites and official WeChat accounts of local women's federations for detailed information and schedules, so as to spend a healthy, safe and meaningful summer vacation with their children.
