Sichuan Women Donate Vegetables to Help Hubei's Fight Against COVID-19

 February 16, 2020

The Women's Federation of Sichuan Province in Southwest China mobilized vegetable growers to donate vegetables for aiding the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic in Central China's Hubei Province, the epicenter of the epidemic.

The Women's Federation of Chengdu City, capital of Sichuan Province, and the women's federations of Shuangliu and Wenjiang districts in Chengdu, as well as residents of Shuangliu's Huanglongxi Town responded to the initiative immediately.

More than 500 locals participated in the donation activity on February 11. Seventy-three households in the town donated about 55 metric tons of celery, cabbages and radishes worth 133,000 yuan (US $19,037).

In the meantime, Huang Guorong, a woman entrepreneur in Chengdu, purchased 17 metric tons of fresh vegetables, which were sent to Hubei from Pengzhou City in Sichuan.

The team for delivering all the vegetables was led by Fan Zhiqiong, woman head of a transport team from a local transportation enterprise. She led her team to deliver the supplies to three destinations in Hubei.

According to Fan, they began to make full preparation for the mission as soon as she accepted it on February 9, adding that they would fulfill it no matter how tough it might be.
