Beijing Exhibition Goes 'Beyond Control'

ByLin Qi May 27, 2021

While studying in France years ago, Li Jing noticed a used desk. She was captivated by the various forms and colors of the stains on the desk. She found in these traces left by the passing of time a new perspective on the world, and was inspired to develop an abstract approach to painting.

Beyond Control, Li's solo exhibition at Today Art Museum in Beijing running through June 20, shows her vivid work in which she plays with a vibrant palette and explores the tension between states of being controlled and beyond control.

Before focusing on painting, Li studied architecture and art conservation. The cross-disciplinary experiences have brought her works a distinctive sense of space and a pursuit of refinement, conveying a touch of tranquility.
