 July 2, 2020

Renowned Peking Opera artist Wang Rongrong will share the story behind the Peking Opera piece Daughter of the Party at the Forbidden City Concert Hall, in Beijing, through livestreaming on July 3.

Besides revealing the background of the work, Wang will also demonstrate classic songs from Daughter of the Party during the event.

She is a veteran actress of the Jingju Theater Company of Beijing, which specializes in Peking Opera, a traditional Chinese art form which combines a variety of performing arts including singing, dancing, martial arts and acrobatics.

Wang also plays the leading role in Daughter of the Party, which is adapted from the Chinese opera of the same title. It tells the story of a woman named Tian Yumei, who is a Party member and fights against the enemy during China's resistance against Japan in 1935.

Composed by Zhu Shaoyu and directed by Chen Lincang, the Peking Opera piece premiered in 2016 and has continued to be performed since then.
