As part of a children's book series, Films for Children offers a list of classic films, connecting 100 years of film history, which would help children appreciate and understand movies, allowing them to learn to examine themselves, understand society and embrace life.

Chinese poet Zhao Zhenkai, better known by his pen name Bei Dao, is the series' editor-in-chief, and Dai Jinhua, China's renowned scholar and professor with Peking University, was invited to choose films for children.

Dai and her team selected 50 classic movies from around the world, covering almost every corner of the globe's movie territory.

"Watching 50 well-chosen movies might not be enough to change your life, but they would definitely enrich your life. A good movie will be a museum of souls or miniatures of the world, where art and society, beauty and wisdom, history and the present, insight and compassion, criticism and reflection are rooted in," said Dai.

"I particularly like the sentence saying there are no kids, but only 'small people,'" Dai added. "Children are of a special social group but live in the world the same as adults. There isn't any vacuum zone for children. They have to face the real world every day."

In this context, the book strives to present movies that are not only "ice creams for the eyes" to entertain children, but also ones that bring enlightenment to their mind and the way they see things.
