More attention has been paid to the development of a well-off society this year, which marks clinching a decisive victory in the battle against poverty and the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

How did impoverished villagers get rid of poverty and lead a well-off life? What difficulties and challenges did they meet in the anti-poverty fight, and how did they break through them?

A novel drawing inspiration from the fight against poverty in Xinhua County of Central China's Hunan Province, one of the first national-level impoverished counties in 1986, answers those questions. The book vividly portrays the images of Chinese people, especially those in rural areas, who are determined to lift themselves out of poverty and realize their dreams of a well-off life.

With the title translated as Two Generations Striving for a Well-off Life, the novel depicts the efforts of two generations of the Kang's family to get rid of poverty and become well-off, as well as their desire to revitalize rural areas after living a good life.

The book pictures many female roles led by Kang Jinhua, who has humble roots and grew up in adversity. Kang struggled on the road full of thorns to moderate prosperity and was always firm in her direction although occasionally confused. In her middle age, she chose to return to her hometown, aiming to lead the local people get rid of poverty and boost rural reconstruction.

As a reality-inspired novel, the book reflects the country's reform and the great changes in urban and rural areas brought by it. It narrates the young generation's growth and the changes of Chinese society, including a record of actual events such as the shift of the family planning policy, college graduates' free choice of professions and China's population migration in modern times.

In addition, the work reveals the growth of women as well as their choices of life journey, and also outlines the historical picture of rural rejuvenation as the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation and the fight against poverty are the major themes of today's China.
