"Even if we are desperate, we will fight till the very last minute. This is the spirit of the Chinese women's volleyball team. We are not necessarily the champions, but our belief in winning the championship matters most."

The release ceremony of the book Thorns and Glory — Biography of the Chinese Women's Volleyball Team was recently held in Beijing to promote the spirit of the Chinese women's volleyball team.

The team's head coach Lang Ping, captain Zhu Ting, former captain Hui Ruoqi, and the book's author Ma Yin shared their stories about the team.

Ma is a senior volleyball reporter who has reported on the Chinese women's volleyball team since 2003, witnessing its growth and success. In her book, she provides her memories of the past and of the important games the team has experienced, describing many touching people and events. Hard work and sweat have written the legendary stories of the glorious Chinese women's volleyball team.

The book encourages the team to stay true to its original aspiration, said Lang at the ceremony, and continued that even though there are many difficulties on the way forward the team will overcome them and does its best. Lang said the team will tap the maximum potential of each team member and always strive for the championship.

Members of the women's volleyball team have shown the spirit of persistence in their daily training. "Whether this team is experiencing highs and lows, the team members have never lowered their requirements of themselves. This is what I understand about the spirit of the Chinese women's volleyball team," Hui said.

Before the National Day of 2019, the team succeeded in defending the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup championship with an impressive 11-game winning streak.
