BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) — The 4th meeting of the China-South Africa high-level people-to-people exchange mechanism was held in Beijing on Wednesday, with both sides agreeing to deepen cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Shen Yiqin, Chinese State Councilor and the Chinese chairperson of the mechanism, co-hosted the meeting with Gayton McKenzie, South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, who is also the South African chairperson of the mechanism.
Shen said that following the third meeting in 2023, the two sides have effectively implemented the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, and made steady progress in advancing cooperation projects in fields such as education, culture, science and technology, and sports.
China is willing to work with South Africa to further broaden and deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhance the quality of cooperation, and make new contributions to advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the new era, consolidating public support for the enduring friendship between both countries, Shen added.
McKenzie spoke highly of the positive progress in South Africa-China relations and people-to-people exchanges, expressing the willingness to continuously enrich the substance of exchanges and tap into the potential for cooperation to benefit the people of both countries.
