Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met with a delegation of the Hong Kong Women Development Association (HKWDA) to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, in Beijing, on June 18. Ip Shun Hing, Member of the 12th National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Member of the Executive Committee of the ACWF and President of the HKWDA, headed the delegation. The delegation composed of 43 members. Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the meeting.
Huang spoke highly of the HKWDA for upholding the principle of "one country, two systems" and the Hong Kong Basic Law, serving the community residents, especially women and children, and playing their roles in key issues involving the development of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).
"Security is the fundamental guarantee for Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and the rule of law is the core value cherished by Hong Kong society," Huang said.
She hoped that the HKWDA would make more efforts to guide women from all walks of life to enhance their national consciousness and patriotism, carry forward the good tradition of respecting the rule of law, and perform their unique function in consolidating social harmony and stability.
Meanwhile, she called on women in Hong Kong to grasp the opportunity of the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and participate in economic and social development actively.
Huang also thanked the HKWDA for its donations to the anti-poverty campaign in the Chinese mainland, and she explained the ACWF's achievements in uniting women to welcome the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, shaking off poverty, promoting rural revitalization and implementing the Happy Family and Well-Being Campaign.
Ip reported on the HKWDA's efforts in serving women and children and supporting the anti-poverty campaign in the mainland, adding that the HKWDA would further unite the patriotic forces and support the government of the Hong Kong SAR and its chief executive in exercising administrative power as mandated by law.
The HKWDA would also more actively join in the construction of the Greater Bay Area and further enhance exchange and cooperation with women's federations in the mainland, she added.
After the meeting, the HKWDA donated 1 million yuan (US $144,940) to the counties included in the ACWF's poverty alleviation list.
