The National Art Museum of China held the Sixth National Youth Fine Art Exhibition in Beijing in June, showcasing the works of outstanding young painters, illustrators, printmakers and sculptors.

Organizers selected 387 works in eight categories for the exhibition, which coincided with the 40th anniversary of the country's reform and opening-up.

Since most of the participants were born after the reform and opening-up started, their growth has been accompanied by the nation's march towards a new era of modernization, economic prosperity and great rejuvenation, said a spokesperson.

The National Youth Fine Art Exhibition was first held in 1957, and has been held five times previously over the past six decades.

The event is an important platform for young artists to show the spirit of inheritance, innovation and integration, and can help them pay attention to social development, added the spokesperson.

After Beijing, the exhibition will tour to northwest China's Qinghai Province and Gansu Province; north China's Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; and, northeast China's Liaoning Province.
