China Merchants Bank (CMB) and the British Council jointly issued The UK Boarding High School White Book on April 11, aiming to help overseas students with their school selection and promote cultural exchanges between China and the UK.

This is the first time that the British Council has provided a comprehensive report on British boarding schools for Chinese kids studying abroad at a young age.

In the 2016-2017 academic year, the total number of boarders at British private schools was just over 70,000, according to the statistics.

Some 11,000 Chinese students studied in UK private high schools during the 2016-2017 term, including 6,662 from the mainland, 4,731 from Hong Kong and 160 from Taiwan, all living away from their parents.

Also, most of the 6,662 mainland students studied at boarding schools.

At present, about a quarter of all international students studying at British private high schools are from China, double that of a decade ago, according to the statistics released by the British Independent Schools Council.
