According to a report jointly released by Beijing Social Psychological Work Association, Beijing Social Psychology Research Institute and Beijing Social Science Publishing House, Beijing residents born in the 1940s and 1950s retain a good mood throughout their lives, while residents born in the 1980s are more pessimistic, restless and unsatisfied with their lives..

According to the Report on Beijing Residents' Social Mentality, most Beijing residents maintain peaceful and reasonable moods. About 20.1 percent of residents felt happy and optimistic most of the time in 2013 and 56.4 percent of the residents kept a reasonable and peaceful mood. The report also indicates that 23.1 percent of residents felt pessimistic, restless and unsatisfied with their life. The report also indicated that Beijing residents display various social moods according to their ages. Residents born before the 1960s tend to maintain a positive mood, while residents born after the 1960s tend to display a negative mood.
