Over the past three years, the Guangxi Women's Federation — the women’s federation of southwest China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region — has worked together with the Guangxi Higher People's Court to establish supervisory bodies in the region’s people's courts in order to better protect the legal rights of women and children.

In the Youjiang District of Baise, the westernmost prefecture-level city of the autonomous region, Madam Lu was astonished to find that her brother had taken away her money that the local government had offered her as compensation for expropriation of her land. Lu went to the local people's court and sought help. The women and children's rights supervisory body in the local people's court collaborated with the local women's federation to help Lu reclaim the money that was rightfully hers.

The case serves as a perfect example of how supervisory bodies can help women and children to protect their rights. Since 2011, the Guangxi Women's Federation has worked with the Guangxi Higher People's Court to establish 365 supervisory bodies in the people's courts throughout the region and at all levels. These supervisory bodies have overseen more than 27,910,000 criminal cases and 166,524 civil cases related to women and children and help to fully protect their legal rights.
On December 30, 2014, the Guangxi Higher People's Court and Guangxi Women's Federation held a meeting to review their work on establishing women and children's rights supervisory bodies. During the meeting, 18 people's courts and 41 supervisory bodies were honored as exemplary women and children's rights protection institutions.
