The launch ceremony of a new competition which seeks to encourage female entrepreneurs who have launched their own companies was held at the offices of Innovation Works, a well-known Chinese venture capital fund, in Beijing on May 30.

The "'Her Startup' International Female Entrepreneurs Competition" is organized by Techbase, a women's start-up incubator in association with the Beijing Women's International Exchange Center.

The competition, which focuses on women entrepreneurs and female-related products, has already attracted over 100 women's startup teams, aimed at both the domestic and international markets. Many of the entrants are equipped with excellent education records, from prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua, Peking, Princeton and Columbia universities. Some are ex-employees of major Chinese companies such as Tencent, Sina, and HSBC. With global vision, they are targeting various fields such as intelligent hardware, payment platforms, mobile social media, environmental protection services and online education.

Liu Sisi, founder of Zhiguoguo, an intellectual property legal services provider, shared her experiences with entrants of the competition who attended the event. "Women entrepreneurs often encounter obstacles like financing, but more and more of them have displayed remarkable abilities and potential through their unyielding efforts. Now prejudice and discrimination against women entrepreneurs is gradually being eroded, providing more impetus for them to keep struggling forward." Since it was founded in March 2014, Li's company has enjoyed among the fastest growth figures in its field, and has attracted widespread attention.

Zhou Zhijun, vice-president of Beijing Women's Federation, revealed in her speech at the launch that "the federation has worked hard in recent years to pool resources for women entrepreneurs to realize their dreams and bring their benefits to the whole of society."

Moreover, the Beijing Women's Federation has vowed to continue its efforts in this aspect by establishing support platforms to combine resource-sharing, professional training and startup incubators, so as to help women entrepreneurs flourish by virtue of their "wisdom and diligence".
