The Zhejiang Women's Association for Science and Technology was officially founded at a meeting held in Hangzhou, capital city of east China's Zhejiang Province on May 9.
At the meeting, Dong Lijun, vice-president of the provincial women's federation, pointed out the significant roles of female scientific workers in promoting local scientific research, technological innovation, and social development.
She also hoped that the association could carry out various tasks under instruction; take the duty of serving and connecting female scientific workers as their fundamental obligation; participate in local women's federation's works and activities actively; focus on the public good for women and children; and enhance the association's self-construction.
In addition, the first administrative committee was also elected during the congress.
According to officials, the provincial Association of Science and Technology and women's federation have prepared for the association since 2014. The establishment of the association is expected to unite local female scientific workers and lead them to contribute efforts to building a comprehensive well-off society.
The activity drew the attendance of Cheng Hongdong, executive vice director of the National Women's Association for Science and Technology; Cai Xiujun, the provincial CPPCC vice chairman; Zheng Jinping, secretary of the Party committee of the provincial Association of Science and Technology and its Vice Presidents Wang Zhongmin and Tian Mei; 300 members of the association; and local officials at all levels.
