A silk factory in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Yunnan Province, witnessed a rapid expansion in the 1980s after the visit of a senior official from China's former Ministry of Textile and Apparel.

After an inspection tour to Chuxiong Silk Production Factory in 1978, Hao Jianxiu, former member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and minister of the ministry concerned, worked with local authorities to allocate capital and dispatch professionals to help the firm purchase 200 textile machines and dying equipment.

The expansion ensured the factory enjoyed fast growth in its productivity in the following decade.

Before the visit, Hao already became a national model laborer and championed increasing the efficiency of the Chinese textile industry. She graduated from the former East China Textile College or Donghua University with excellent academic results in 1962.

After the end of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), Hao was appointed with senior posts in the Ministry of Textile and Apparel. Back then, she paid huge attention and extended great support to the development of the textile industry in far-off and boundary regions.
