On September 22, Shanxi Women's Federation and Shanxi Library unveiled 100 winners of the campaign "Looking for Representative Families of Scholars", out of thousands of contestants who applied, in Taiyuan, capital city of north China's Shanxi province.
Organizers encouraged local families to share their relevant stories throughout the campaign, and to promote the popularity of reading educational books in their everyday life.
At the event, representative families were invited to speak with audiences about their moving or interesting stories in connection with reading and learning. For instance, one representative said that she had made up her mind to help her son diagnosed with cerebral palsy acquire competence in reading and eventually send him to college, while other speakers disclosed that they fell in love with reading under the influence of their parents or teachers in childhood.
"The campaign drew the active participation of local families from all walks of life across the entire province who have demonstrated their elegant taste towards reading and a collection of literary publications", said Member of the Secretariat and Vice-President of Shanxi Women's Federation Li Fei in her speech at the unveiling ceremony. Li added that honored families were expected to play a key role in the further promotion of reading and the growth of positive reading concepts among local women, children and their other family members.
Those in attendance included other officials from two sponsoring organizations and representatives of honored families.
