Blue Sky Association for the Protection of Women's and Children's Rights in Jianli County, central China's Hubei Province, has introduced a host of measures to improve the livelihoods of women and children from underprivileged families, since it was officially established by local women's federation in 2014.

Anti-Domestic Violence

The association organized 7 series of lectures with a focus on anti-domestic violence at the local broadcasting station, and hosted a total of five rounds of relevant training sessions for local women officials and volunteers in 2014. Meanwhile, it provided 15 victims of domestic violence with psychological counseling.

Assistance to Orphans on Weekends

In addition to compiling files for 445 orphans, the association has organized volunteers to visit 21 youth at regular times, and sent200 yuan (U.S.$ 30.9) every month while working with Hubei Volunteers Association to collect public donations. So far, five orphans have had their household registration and successfully applied for financial assistance from the local government. Two of them have found adoptive families.

Educational Tour

The association organized more than 100 rounds of lectures and educational events in 2015 to teach target groups about how to prevent sexual harassment, drowning, illicit drugs, fraud, domestic violence and traffic accidents.  Thanks to its efforts, there were no criminal cases on the local campuses last year.

Psychological Assistance

20 volunteer psychologists were organized to lecture students from two local schools about how to maintain psychological health in their personal lives. So far, 41 target students have received professional service in the treatment of their psychological illness.

Rescue Efforts for Cruise Ship Eastern Star

After the Eastern Star cruise ship capsized on the morning of June 1, 2015 after being caught in a cyclone in Jianli section of Yangtze River, the association provided 300 relatives of victims in the tragedy with various means of assistance, including psychological counseling for 39 individuals.
