Ngan Po Ling and Zheng Zhen, vice-presidents of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) Hong Kong Delegates Association Ltd. who are in charge of the organization's committee on social affairs, visited candidates for the Fifth Hong Kong District Council (DC) Election, who are also members of the same body. They showed huge support for their campaign for DC seats when the DC election was simultaneously held at election posts across south China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on November 22.

During the contest, 867 candidates vied for 363 of the 431 seats across 18 district councils in Hong Kong, with each seat representing a small neighbourhood. With 1.47 million citizens casting their ballots, or 47 percent of all registered voters who had candidates to choose from, the latest DC election set records for both head count and turnout rate, which was widely perceived as a tribute to Hong Kong's current political arrangements.

The DC plays an advisory role in policymaking and plays an important role in helping political parties to grow supporter bases and acquire resources in the city.

At the election posts concerned, Ngan and Zheng called on local residents to vote for their favourite candidates and make their contribution to the positive development of local political, social and economic affairs.

After an intensive contest with their competitors, 13 out of 14 DC candidates who are members of the ACWF Hong Kong Delegates Association Ltd. won their seats at the DC, according to final results released by the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) in Hong Kong.

Their success in the DC election has shown the public's recognition for their contributions to local communities, Hong Kong and the nation.
