Scholar Yu Dan Speaks with HK Youth about Importance of Reading

The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the ACWF Hong Kong Delegates Association invited Yu Dan, a well-respected professor from Beijing Normal University known for her epertise in traditional Chinese literature, to give a two-hour lecture for local youths with an emphasis on the benefits of reading and the what it means to be a good person at the Hong Kong Arts Centre on August 26.

Those in attendance were Xv Lihua, director of the organization and liaison department in the ACWF; Florence Hui, vice-director of the Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau; Liao Xun, vice-director of the Coordination Department at the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (LOCPG) in Hong Kong; Stella Lau Kun Lai-kuen, chairperson of the Hong Kong Women's Commission; Ip Shun Hing, president of the ACWF Hong Kong Delegates Association; other senior officials from the ACWF Hong Kong Delegates Association and 500 young people from all across the special administrative region.

In her lecture, Yu spoke with attendees about the lifelong importance of reading having on individual development. For Yu, the first priority of reading is to help us differentiate between truth and falsehood, and secondly to develop a love of knowledge that sprouts from a foundation built in childhood.

Reading can also help the public further cultivate their independent thinking skills, broaden their horizons and enrich their personal lives, Yu said.

Participants gave high praise to Yu for her remarkable lecture.
