Invited representatives of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and a delegation of members to the Executive Committee from south China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Macao SAR visited Hangzhou, capital city of southeast China's Zhejiang Province, and other cities on a tour across the province from October 14 to 18, 2014.

In attendance during the inspection tour included Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF Meng Xiaosi, Deputy Director of the Coordination Department under the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR Liao Xun, and Deputy Director of the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR Zhang Shenju.

During their 5-day tour, delegation members paid a visit to Waitongwu Village in the Xihu District of Hangzhou, Dinghai New District of Zhoushan and other areas in the region, where they learned of social and economic development, construction of rural areas and women's engagement in business affairs. They also toured the Xixi Wetlands in Hangzhou, Putuo Islands in Zhoushan, the Ningbo Fellowship Museum in Ningbo and other places of interest, which further deepened their understanding of Zhejiang and its people.

On the afternoon of October 15, Vice Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Wang Huizhong and President of the Zhejiang Women's Federation Lao Hongwu met with the delegation in Hangzhou to talk about issues of common concern.

After briefing about the delegation on Zhejiang, Wang said the province had built strong economic ties with Hong Kong and Macao in recent years and emphasized the delegation's visit would further promote exchange and cooperation between Zhejiang and the two SARs in many fields, in addition to people-to-people interaction among women from the three areas.

Lao introduced the operations of her organizations' daily work to the visiting delegates.

Meng extended a warm welcome on behalf of the ACWF to the visiting delegates, conveyed her thanks to the Liaison Offices of the Central People's Government of the two SARs and the local government in Zhejiang for their support of the tour, and added the visit was expected to help delegates better understand social and economic development in the Chinese Mainland and stimulate friendship among women from the three regions.

Chairperson of the All-China Women's Federation Hong Kong Delegates Association Limited (WFDA) and Head of the Hong Kong sub-delegation Wong Yeung Chi Hung and Vice Director General of the Women's Association of Macao and leader of the Macao sub-delegation He Dingyi also spoke on the development of women's affairs in their regions.

The latest inspection tour in Zhejiang is part of an effort sponsored by the ACWF to help fellow women from Hong Kong and Macao learn about the Mainland and build sound partnerships with their counterparts in mainland provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.

Similar activities have been held in Jiangsu, Shandong, Jilin and Qinghai provinces, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
