Officials from Bijie Women's Federation, southwest China's Guizhou Province, led a group to extend Spring Festival greetings to local residents of Fangzhu Village in the city's Qixingguan District, on February 3.

During the tour, the federation dropped in on 20 poverty-stricken families and households with senior Party members, visited 10 children, and brought them materials worth of more than 15,000 yuan (U.S. $2,300).

The group delivered basic goods including rice and cooking oil to low-income households and senior Party members, as well as cotton-padded clothes, schoolbags and stationary for the children. Meanwhile, they conveyed love and care on behalf of the Communist Party of China and sent New Year blessings.

President and vice-president of the federation Wang Lijia and Huang Wenbi had conversations with the families and Party members, inquired about their living status, and explained new benefit and poverty-alleviation policies to them.

They encouraged villagers to be independent and to develop productivity, and choose appropriate poverty-relief programs according to their merits.

On the day, officials from the federation also visited children of foster families in the name of "caring mothers". They gave them new clothes, bags, books and other educational articles and encouraged the kids to study hard. They wished them a wonderful Spring Festival and a happy life.

The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese Lunar New Year is the most important Chinese festival, which falls on February 8 this year.
