Vice-President of Guangxi Women's Federation Wu Xiaoli led young staff members from the federation to visit with local residents about how to improve their lives during a trip to Datang Township in Liangqing District of Nanning City, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on May 4 in commemoration of Youth Day.

Youth Day derived from the May Fourth Movement, which was an intellectual and reformist movement that reached its peak in 1919. An anti-imperialist movement, it demanded the restoration of Chinese independence and sovereignty. The movement was initiated mainly by university students, who were angry with the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. They were particularly outraged by the passing of German imperial interests in north China's Shandong Province to Japan.

During their visit, Wu and her colleagues distributed publications related to poverty relief policies amongst local women, and encouraged them to apply for training sessions designed to help them learn housekeeping techniques.

In addition, they also spoke with local residents about the protection of women's rights and interests, the construction of harmonious families, the operation of domestic education, the prevention of domestic violence and the assistance of women with breast or cervical cancer.
