Member of the Bavarian Landtag (the state parliament in Bavaria), Ute Eiling-Hütig, who is also a member of the Presiding Committee of the Women's Alliance in Upper Bavaria, Germany, headed a delegation to hold talks with officials from Guangxi Women's Federation and other local governmental agencies about their efforts to promote women's employment and the development of the domestic service industry during a visit to Nanning, capital city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on November 3-5.

During their stay, members of the delegation toured Nanning Women and Children's Activity Center, the local women's livestock breeding association, representative bases with an emphasis upon women's engagement in science, Nanning Zhenqi Agricultural Science Development Co. Ltd., and Guangxi Haotian'an Enbao Maternal and Infant's Healthcare & Counseling Center. They praised local governmental bodies for their joint efforts in helping women and children secure their rights and interests and in providing underprivileged women with a new scheme of interest-free loans for their business activities.

On November 4, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation co-sponsored a forum entitled "Women and the Domestic Service Industry" for a visiting German delegation and local officials in Nanning to hold interactions about the promotion of women's careers, the growth of domestic services, challenges generated from ongoing social transformation and the increasingly ageing population, amongst other commonly concerning topics.

At the forum, Director of the European Affairs Department in the ACWF, Li Xiaoxing, said that the two organizations had built up a sound partnership in the advancement of women's affairs over the past few years and would further enhance their cooperation in the field concerned in the near future. She added that the forum was expected to strengthen communication and cooperation amongst women from Guangxi and Germany in the development of domestic services.

Vice-President of Guangxi Women's Federation, Wu Xiaoli, briefed attendees about the organization's consistent efforts to help local women in their employment and the development of the domestic service industry over the past few years. Meanwhile, officials from local departments of civil affairs, human resources and social security, and commerce spoke with participants about their endeavors to develop the local nursing industry and other domestic sectors.

For her part, Eiling-Hütig said that they were deeply impressed with Guangxi's practices and measures in the promotion of domestic services. She shared concrete actions taken by the German government with her Chinese counterparts, including assisting women in their pregnancy and maternity leave, helping them find employment or run their own businesses, securing infant's access to preschool education, and ensuring senior residents' right to nursing care.
