SMC Delegation Visit CWU

A delegation from U.S.-based Saint Mary's College (SMC) visited China Women's University (CWU) from June 8-11 and participated in a seminar on academic exchange.

Participants also included teachers and students from CWU's International Cooperation Department, Enrollment and Employment Office, Communist Youth League Committee, Foreign Languages Department, Women's Studies Faculty, the School of Social Work, the School of Child Development and Education, and the Higher Vocational College.

Teachers and students from the Foreign Languages Department introduced traditional Chinese culture to the visitors and communicated with them. CWU teachers shared the key ways of passing on traditional Chinese culture, the dialectics of the "yin and yang", and China's tea culture from the angle of philosophical connotations.

CWU students performed Tai Chi and Chinese folk music, and showed tea arts and calligraphy. The activity fully embodies China's value of pursuing peace and the core socialist values. It also led the visitors to understand the extensive and profound Chinese culture.

The organizers held a salon for Chinese and American female undergraduates on June 10. Lu Ping, a teacher from CWU's Recruitment and Employment Office, introduced the university's policies in supporting budding entrepreneurs and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. Lu also outlined the university's talent cultivation strategy and its specific practical activities.

Afterwards, CWU's entrepreneur teams analyzed the current crisis and challenges for entrepreneurs and introduced the status quo of their own businesses. Their unique viewpoints and specific ideas impressed those present.

Two female entrepreneurs from St. Mary's College shared their entrepreneurial process and their life experiences during the process. They also communicated with the students, gave advice for female students who are going to start a business and helped broaden students' horizons.

On the evening of June 11, the organizers held a party for further exchange. Students performed traditional dance, gymnastics, Tai Chi and folk music with CWU's characteristics. The visitors were interested in traditional Chinese culture and art, and thought the activity would greatly enhance Chinese and American students' friendship.

SMC was founded in 1844 and located in Indiana, midwestern and Great Lakes regions of North America. The college is a comprehensive institute which was recognized by the U.S. Higher Education Council.

SMC signed a cooperation agreement with CWU in January 2017 and received students from CWU's Finance Department for academic exchange the same year.
