Egyptian Ambassador Moushira Khattab Visits CWU

 December 9, 2016

Moushira Khattab, former Egyptian minister of Family and Population, visited China Women's University (CWU) in November, where she attended a seminar on women's development.

CWU President Liu Liqun, Vice-President Liu Meng and directors from the university's International Cooperation Department, International Education College and School of Culture and Communication participated in the event.

Liu Liqun warmly welcomed visitors and introduced CWU's development history, academic characteristics, undergraduate curriculum, objective of talent cultivation, and its basic situation of international exchange. Liu also laid out CWU's efforts and accomplishments in accelerating the development of social work at home and abroad.

CWU initiated a foreign aid project for masters of social work in the first half of 2016 to positive social repercussions. As the first and the only state-owned women's university, Liu said that the CWU is committed to promoting international communication among women and will continue to develop institutionalized exchange programs in the future.

Moushira Khattab thanked the university for their warm reception and shared Egypt's experiences in promoting gender equality and women's progress. In addition, she commented that she was impressed by CWU's achievements in increasing employment opportunities for female students, improving women's status, as well as promoting gender equality and women's development.

She also exchanged opinions with CWU leaders on CWU's admission system, overseas students program, the curriculum of social work and its talent cultivation program. Egypt is expecting to further cooperate with China on global matters, and she hoped that more Egyptian students could come to China and study at CWU in the future.

Afterwards, Moushira Khattab gave a lecture on "Women's Education and Social Development". From the perspective of female leadership, gender equality and women's participation in social services, she noted that women's education levels are of great significance to promoting gender equality and social development worldwide.

During the speech, Moushira Khattab said that education is one of the best investments a country can make, particularly ensuring that children and women have equal educational opportunities. "Increasing women's education level as well as boosting their participation in the labor force, productivity and earnings reduces poverty and promotes growth," added Moushira Khattab.

Touching on the concept of lifelong education, Moushira Khattab pointed out that lifelong education not only covers academic education, but also includes knowledge received from the family, society and other fields. She encouraged participants to learn actively and commit to making learning a regular and focused part of their lives.

All trainees from CWU's foreign aid project, postgraduates, and some undergraduates from the Finance Department and Foreign Languages Department participated in the event.
