ACWF President Leads Women's Delegation to Visit Laos and Cambodia

Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), led a Chinese women's delegation to visit Laos and Cambodia from May 3 to 9.

Shen's Visit to Laos

During her visit, Shen met with Pany Yathotou, President of the National Assembly of Laos and held a working meeting with the president of Lao Women's Union.

Meanwhile, Shen made an inspection tour to Saysettha Development Zone near the Lao capital of Vientiane, noted as an important site for promoting China's latest Belt and Road Initiative.

Later, Shen visited Laos-China Women's Training Center, Lao Women's Museum, Lao cotton factory and rural women's handicrafts processing projects.

Shen's Visit to Cambodia

During her tour to Cambodia, Shen met with Heng Samrin, president of the National Assembly of Cambodia and Men Sam An, deputy prime minister of Cambodia.

Shen also held a talk with Ing Kanthaphavy, minister of Women's Affairs in Cambodia and unveiled a Cambodia-China Women's Training Center.

Furthermore, the ACWF President toured the Confucius Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia and its women's entrepreneurship center.

On her visit, Shen reached a consensus with the two countries' leaders of women organizations and institutions.

Shen's Remarks

During the meetings, Shen spoke highly of both countries' relations with China, expressing her thanks for their positive participation into advancing the Belt and Road Initiative.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in 2012, China has obtained great achievements in various undertakings under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, Shen said.

Specifically, the achievements included building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, deepening reform , advancing the law-based governance of China and strengthening Party self-discipline.

Moreover, Shen made a brief introduction of the Spirit of the 6th Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, claiming women nationwide have firm confidence in the realization of the "Chinese Dream" of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Shen maintained that the CPC will hold its 19th National Congress in the second half of the year. At present, people across the country, including women, have been making great efforts to welcome the upcoming meeting.

In addition, Shen expressed hope that both nations will jointly promote the initiative to bring about mutual benefit, saying that China will continue to keep close ties with the two sides in multiple aspects.

Furthermore, she introduced the achievements made by Chinese women in recent years while extending her congratulations and praise to the development and progress of both countries.

Leaders from Laos and Cambodia also gave high praise to bilateral relations, strongly approving President Xi's "Belt and Road" initiative which they are willing to participate in . They also wish the convening of the 19th National Congress of the CPC a great success.

Those who accompanied Shen during her visit included Xia Jie, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF; Xiong Bo, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia; and, Zhao Chenggang, Charge d'Affaires at China's Embassy in Laos.
