8th China-S Asia Cooperative Meeting Held for Women Entrepreneurs in SW China

The 8th Cooperative Meeting of Women Entrepreneurs Between China and South Asia was held in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on June 7, 2013, which achieved a series of positive results and promoted economic and trade cooperation and exchanges among women in the region.

The Business Forum between China and South Asia (BFCS) is the first business cooperation mechanism created by the industrial and commercial circles of China and South Asian countries to develop regional economic cooperation.

Under this mechanism, the cooperative meeting of Women entrepreneurs between China and South Asia was held, reflecting the common desire of women entrepreneurs to strengthen cooperation and seek win-win results in the region, and has established an important platform for cooperation between bilateral and multilateral women entrepreneurs.

The meeting was co-hosted by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Yunnan Provincial People's Government.

The meeting was held on the theme of "Women Entrepreneurship and Regional Cooperation." It is the first attempt to carry out woman entrepreneur cooperation under the framework of the Business Forum between China and South Asia and is also an important expansion of this forum. 

The guests discussed two major issues, including promoting economic and trade cooperation and exchanges among women in the region, promoting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and women's employment.

Foreign guests attending the meeting include Pramilla Rigier, president of the SAARC Woman Entrepreneurs Council, Sri Ghana Lana, vice-president of the SAARC Woman Entrepreneurs Council, and Monovara Allie, vice-president of the Bangladesh Federation of Industry and Commerce.

Moreover, over 250 representatives of women entrepreneurs from South Asian countries, nine provinces and cities in China, Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and Taiwan participated at the meeting.

Meng Xiaosi, deputy secretary of the Leading Party Group, vice-president and secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Meng said in today's world, multi-polarization and economic globalization are developing, countries' economies are opening to each other, and global cooperation is also expanding at multiple levels and in all directions.

In recent years, the economic growth in China and South Asian countries has maintained a good momentum. China and South Asian countries are one of the most economically active regions in the world, all of which have brought good opportunities and a broader platform for women entrepreneurship in various countries. Women entrepreneurship has become an irresistible new trend on a global scale, said Meng.

Pramilla shared with delegates the opportunities and challenges faced by women in South Asia at this stage and the exchanges and cooperation of women entrepreneurs in cross-regional economic and trade cooperation.

She mentioned that in Asia, social and political development has brought great changes to the status of women in the area, but we still face many challenges and she is hoping to use the platform of BFCS to work together with the SAARC Women Entrepreneurs Council in an effort to expand cooperation among bilateral women, manufacturers and entrepreneurs in the future.

The guests spoke at the meeting and actively offered suggestions for promoting exchanges and cooperation among women entrepreneurs in China and South Asian countries.

Zhong Maoru, vice-president of the Women's Committee of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, believes that there is huge space for cooperation and market potential between China and South Asian countries. The cooperation between the two sides in economic and trade cooperation is in a period of rapid growth and a mutually beneficial and win-win situation can be created with joint efforts.

Ms. He Kailing, executive director of Macao Women's Federation, proposed to start a course related to women entrepreneurship to help young women entrepreneurs understand entrepreneurship, accumulate experience, and use the platform of the Internet to carry out international exchanges and cooperation.

At the meeting, Yunnan Women's Federation signed a memorandum of cooperation with the SAARC Women Entrepreneurs Council and the Bangladesh Federation of Industry and Commerce.

The Yunnan Women Entrepreneurs Association and the Pakistan Sindh Women's Chamber of Commerce also signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly agree on further cooperation in broader fields.

Through the meeting, it can be seen that women from all over the world have become masters of their countries, societies and their own destinies. They are self-respecting, self-confident, self-reliant, and actively participate in the economic construction and social development of all countries, exerting an important influence on decision-making and development in countries around the world, said an official.

In the economic and trade field, the team of women entrepreneurs has continued to grow, and has won widespread recognition and respect from society with their outstanding achievements, and has also made important contributions to the development of the world economy, said an official.

We hope to make full use of the fruits achieved at this conference, further strengthen bilateral and multilateral exchanges, enhance mutual friendship, and work together to hold regular conferences so as to provide opportunities and platforms for women entrepreneurs and manufacturers in China and South Asian countries, said an official.

We will establish a long-term cooperation mechanism with the SAARC Women Entrepreneurs Council to conduct regular visits and professional training for bilateral women entrepreneurs, deepen their understanding of investment policies and the business environment in China and South Asian countries, and promote bilateral economic and trade exchanges and cooperation, said another official.

We will further strengthen cultural exchanges and technological cooperation among women's enterprises in China and South Asian countries, accelerate technological progress and innovation among women's enterprises, strive to improve their comprehensive competitiveness in the world, and guide women to play an active role in social progress and technological development, said another official.
