The visit was held to learn about the progress made by local women's federations in the implementation of President Xi Jinping's important remarks and instructions concerning their work on women's affairs and the fulfillment of their political responsibilities in leading women from different sections of society to follow the call of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
During a trip to Shanghai Juke Biotech Park, Shen, who is also vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), highly commended the reforms made by the park's women's federation in meeting the demands of locals in terms of family education, the protection of their rights and interests, and career development.
Shen observed many elderly winners of the National March 8th Red-banner Holder title taking part in physical exercises and talking with each other when she visited Shanghai Development Center of Women-oriented Social Organizations.
Shen highly praised the work undertaken by local women's federations in providing multiple social services via the center in a move to further expand their coverage. Moreover, she called on officials to make full use of their functions and integrate social resources with the aim of better serving women and their families.
The inspection tour also brought Shen to the grassroots women's federation and the women's activity center in the districts of Xuhui and Changning respectively, where she talked with local women about the positive changes of the women's federations before and after their reform.
She also discussed how to make full use of the functions played by presidents and members of the executive committees of the women's federations, and gave advice on how to build closer ties between the public and women's federations.
Shen communicated with locals about their favorite activities organized by women's federations, access to childcare services after the introduction of universal two-child policy, and additional requirements.
In response, the people said that the reform and opening-up policy has brought remarkable improvements to their lives and continued that they are greatly grateful to the CPC's leadership and will give their firm endorsement to President Xi.
Shen also visited two childcare centers, interacted with local kids, and learned about the number of children in each classroom and teaching staff arrangement.
In addition, Shen paid a visit to residential districts and communities, an industrial park, a mediation committee of marriage and family disputes, and a village, where she inspected the development of women's federations in family services industry, the establishment of women's activities center, women's entrepreneurship and innovation, mediatory services of marriage and family disputes, and the efforts to beautify courtyards.
During her stay in Shanghai, Shen attended a meeting with presidents of provincial-level women's federations in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangxi, along with officials from women's federations at various levels in the city, and heard about their work reports.
Furthermore, Shen met with Li Qiang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of Shanghai CPC Municipal Committee; and Ying Yong, vice-secretary of Shanghai CPC Municipal Committee and mayor of Shanghai.
Zhang Xiaolan, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, also attended the inspection tour.
