The Party leadership group of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) recently organized a seminar for officials to study and implement President Xi Jinping's keynote remarks on poverty relief.
Previously, President Xi has urged officials to enhance their efforts and introduce precise measures to eradicate extreme poverty.
At the seminar, officials from the ACWF Party leadership group discussed how to continuously carry out initiatives targeting women's poverty reduction.
They agreed to assign an assistive relay team of officials to promote such measures among several targeted pilot counties.
Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, addressed attendees while presiding over the event.
Under the leadership of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, President Xi, as the core leader, has stressed on eradicating poverty in a comprehensive way.
The Central Committee set helping disadvantaged people out of poverty as a bottom-line task and an iconic indicator during the nation's building of a moderately prosperous society.
The battle against poverty should be a political commitment of the Party to the people, during which women should fully play their role of "holding up half the sky".
Meanwhile, women's federations should also make use of their unique advantages in the campaign of fighting poverty, which demonstrates the organizations' major political responsibility.
Acting in accordance with the spirit of the Central Committee's work conference on the issue, ACWF issued a guideline on carrying out women's poverty-alleviation and development initiatives.
The guideline highlighted seven key tasks in this aspect, pointing to ambition, capability, entrepreneurship, use of women's handicrafts, people's mutual assistance, health and associated aid.
Women's federations at various levels responded quickly to the campaign and encouraged women to play an active role in gaining achievements in the battle against poverty.
The Central Committee with Xi as its core leader has shown a deep concern for impoverished people and those in extremely poverty-stricken areas.
Song urged federations at different levels to strengthen their responsibilities; focus on precise relief measures; find appropriate approaches; and, make women's poverty-relief campaigns better serve the overall situation of local government's projects and women's practices.
ACWF will send special assistance teams to the two targeted counties of Zhangxian and Xihe in northwest China's Gansu Province, to further the implementation of Xi's remarks.
The teams' main tasks include actively working in cooperation with local projects on poverty reduction; guiding grassroots federations to carry out women's campaigns; promoting precise measures across extremely poverty-stricken areas; and, extending full-range of assistance to local governments and Party committees.
Moreover, the teams serve as part of the ACWF's innovative projects that encourage officials to make grassroots tours every two months.
Meanwhile, officials should make efforts in accordance with the nation's educational normalization of "undertaking studies on the theoretical and practical issues of Party building".
Song urged federations to make more connections with women; and improve their work style.
This will not only aid women's poverty relief, but also improve officials' capabilities, she stressed.
With combined efforts, the campaign will gain achievements in multiple aspects, which is conductive to greeting the upcoming 19th CPC National Congress.
During the visits to the two targeted counties in Gansu, ACWF officials will set impoverished townships as a key assistance spot.
ACWF will continue sending officials to the area for a period of one month each time.
With more and more visiting teams of officials, those counties are expected to achieve improved services to women, better work implementation, enhanced competence, and changes of work style at the grassroots level.
