In order to offer their support for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit to be held in Qingdao in June, over 10,000 volunteers have been selected in the city and are currently undergoing training.

Qingdao, in east China's Shandong Province, will host the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO, during which time volunteers will offer services such as assisting guests with arrival and departure, translation, and media requests at 1,500 service stations.

The service stations will be located around the city, including subway stations and other public transport hubs.

One of the volunteers, Li Yuwei, who studied in Qingdao, says that when she was informed that she was going to be a volunteer she became too exited to sleep.

"I have been here for five years and regard the city as my second hometown, so I signed up as soon as I learned the recruitment of volunteers for the event," she explained.

In order to offer better service for subway passengers, Li has persisted in practicing her standing posture, smile, and foreign customs and etiquette knowledge, and enhancing her oral English.

Qingdao Women's Federation (QWF) and Qingdao Municipal Voluntary Service School have established a training platform for women volunteers from various fields such as communities, schools, tourism, enterprises.

QWF has also mobilized volunteers to participate in a city-cleaning activity to create a clean and clear Qingdao ahead of the high-profile event.
