All Sectors of Society Should Respect Women and Support Women's Development
Former Chinese President Hu Jintao [Women of China]

The Chinese Government has resolutely implemented the State policy of gender equality, and it has provided opportunities for women to contribute their talents to the country and make personal achievements. We have also created conditions to protect women's lawful rights and guarantee women's equal access to benefits that result from reform and development.

Governments, at all levels, must give stronger support to women's federations, and they must encourage the federations to work with an innovative spirit. All sectors of society should respect women and support women's development, by working together to eliminate discrimination against women, and to crack down on violations of women's rights.

— Then-Chinese President Hu Jintao made the above comments during his meeting with newly elected leaders of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and some deputies of the 10th National Women's Congress of China, on November 1, 2008.

The women's movement has been a brilliant part of China's history during the past 100 years. Women must continue advancing women's cause, by emancipating their minds and keeping pace with the times, with a broader vision and practical efforts.

Governments, at all levels, must realize the significance of women's work under the new circumstances, and they must help solve women's practical problems. Women's rights to participate in politics and economic and social development must be protected.

— Hu made the above remarks during the meeting to mark the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, on March 7, 2010.
