2014 Women and the Economy Forum Kicks Off in Beijing

The 2014 Women and the Economy Forum opened in Beijing on May 22. Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) Shen Yueyue attended the opening ceremony and delivered the key-note speech.

Shen said that women have created both material and spiritual wealth in this world and women are the driving force of social and economic development, adding that within the framework of APEC, women's status and influence have been reinforced.

Shen stressed that the Women and the Economy Forum has made great contributions to the gender mainstreaming process in terms of the economy.

The theme of the 2014 Women and the Economy Forum is to "Unite women's strength and boost the Asia-pacific economy". Over 300 delegates from APEC members attended the forum.
