Shandong Seminar Urges Family Education Legislation

 August 6, 2015

Shandong Family Culture Research Society has held a seminar to discuss family education legislation in Ji'nan, capital of east China's Shandong Province. At the event, attendees proposed legislation in the province to better help parents bring up their children in a healthy, socially aware and responsible manner.

At the forum organizers released the results of two surveys, "Social Questionnaire on 'Family Education Legislation'" and "Suggestions on Family Education Legislation". They indicated that family education legislation is supported by 90 percent parents, has solid legal backing and rich useful reference. Therefore, family education legislation should be put on the agenda, according to the results.

Combining theory with practice, the reports indicated the necessity, urgency and feasibility of family education legislation. There are some problems that need to be solved in terms of existing family education guidelines, including its uncertain strategic position, low leadership level, insufficient financing and deficiency of government support, organizers urged.

In-depth studies and professional teams should be offered to undertake scientific research on family education. Currently there is a lack of an effective communication and coordination mechanism among family education, school education, and social education.

Backward parenting, deficient and partial family education are especially common in today's society. Regulation and supervision should be urgently strengthened in family education market.

Family education is an important part of and foundation for the three major education systems. It is not only necessary but also urgent and feasible to carry out family education legislation, organizers said.
