Hunan Women Federations' Officials Take on Poverty Alleviation Training

The officials came from the Wuling Moutian area of the province. Topics of the training covered women's work in poverty allivation, environmental protection, relevant policies and measures, ande fforts directed toward and development of poverty alleviation measures in the Wuling Mounain area.
The training was organized by the All China Women's Federation (ACWF) and State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development. Officials from both organizations gave lectures at the training sessions.
In addition, attendees visited a national women's bases of exemplary modern agriclutural technology in Hunan's Shimen County.
More than 150 officials from women's federations from 71 impoverished counties in Hubei, Guizhou and Hubei provinces as well as southwest China's Chongqing Municpality attended the training.
After the training, ACWF officials visited modern agriclutural technology bases in Changde City, Hunan Province; and a women's hand-knitting base in the province's Anxiang County.
Women's federations in Hunan Province has been conducting ‘Poverty Alleviation Action for Women' and have made great achievements in helping women improve their livelihoods.
Statistics show, in recent years, women's federations in the province have persuaded government agencies to invest more than 31 million yuan (US$ 5.07 million) in various actions, and organized 2,600 skill training sessionss for women, benefiting about 600,000 disadvantaged women.
Furthmore, they established more than 700 exemplary bases and fostered a number of role models in fighting poverty who have encouraged more than 300,000 women to do the same.
They have also raised 4 billion yuan (US$ 654 million) from home and abroad, benefiting nearly 6 million women and children. The fund was channelled into a small loans for women program, establishing exemplary villages of women's poverty alleviation, funding mobile clinics for mothers, helping girls who had dropped out return to school, and funding screening program s forcervical and breast cancer.
Meanwhile, women's federations in Hunan are also making use of social resources to help disadvantaged women and children. In this way, nearly 10,000 training sessions in culture, medicine, technology and laws and regulations were held in rural areas, more than 20,000 cultural and entertainment centers were establiished and road works of more than 200,000 kilometers was constructed.
