A meeting was held by Gansu Women's Federation at the headquarters of the Gansu Women and Children's Activity Center in Lanzhou, capital city of northwest China's Gansu Province, on the morning of June 19 to discuss better ways of helping local women members find employment opportunities and set up their own businesses in economically developed regions in eastern China under current social circumstances.

During the gathering, Deputy Governor of Gansu Provincial People's Government Xia Hongmin gave high praise to local women's federations for their consistent efforts to help underprivileged women find employment and initiate business affairs over the past several years. He called on relevant governmental bodies to extend their full support to the women's federations in their work on poverty-alleviation amongst target women in the following years.

Meanwhile, local women fellows are expected to further increase their sense of responsibilities, closely observe legal regulations and social conventions, make quicker adjustments to new social environments outside of the province and maintain frequent contact with women's federations and training bases about their daily work and life. This applies when they are delivering their household management service and other jobs to clients, Xia added in his speech.

For her part, President of the Gansu Women's Federation Su Jun said at the conference that the federation would more closely implement the key points raised at the Gansu Provincial Work Meeting on Poverty-alleviation, held in recent days. She also announced that the federation would strive to build up 200 vocational training bases for target women, cultivate 1,000 brokers engaged in women's employment, and help a total of 200,000 economically underprivileged women find employment or launch their personal business affairs in various sectors by the end of 2017.

Those in attendance at the meeting included senior officials from the Gansu Provincial People's Government, the Gansu Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, the Gansu Provincial Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, and other relevant governmental bodies as well as representative of women's federation staff.
