Chongqing Holds Summer Camp for Teen Orphans, Poverty-stricken Kids

Local teenage orphans and children from poverty-stricken families in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality attended a "Happier Growth" summer camp sponsored by Chongqing Women's Federation at Chongqing Women and Children's Training Activity Center on July 22-24.

The three-day event drew the attendance of 120 target children, charity-minded adults and social instructors from across the region, and aimed to further enrich their ongoing summer holiday.

At the event's opening ceremony, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of Chongqing Women's Federation Zhang Shuyu said that it was of great significance for teenagers and the public to hold such summer camps, and added that local women's federations should make full play of their advantages in the mobilization of social resources to extend more compassion and care to underprivileged children.

Zhang said that she hope that local women's federations would help youngsters both in their daily life and academic studies, further increase the competence of staff members' from women's federations and charity-minded individuals in their delivery of assistance, and help them develop positive characters, including self-independence,  self-encouragement and perseverance.

During the event, teenage attendees were lectured about patriotism, psychological counseling, popular science, parental education, teamwork and other topics important for their personal growth.
