Designer Showcases Paper Dresses, Supports Environment

 April 9, 2015

A designer showcased her dresses made of paper in order to advocate protection of the environment, at an event in Changchun, capital city of northeast China's Jilin Province on April 7.

"It feels really high-end and gorgeous," said models who wore and demonstrated Yang Sisi 's outfits on the runway.

Over past 10 years, Yang has been committed to the unusual choice of couture material.

"Unlike cloth, paper can create different effects. And paper is environmentally friendly," said Yang.

Instead of using needles and thread, she uses glue to paste sheets together. The material that seemingly has nothing to do with clothes turned out to hold a special beauty.

In the beginning of Yang's paper designing career her friends were not always supportive although she just wanted to do it for fun.

"I had never designed dresses before. I studied color matching and makeup in Beijing," explains Yang.

When Yang showed her first dress to her friends they were amazed. Since then, more and more people have lent their support.

"I knew there were people who were making paper clothes, but I want to make something more fashionable and delicate," said Yang.
