ACWF Launches Campaign in Women's Rights Defense

The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) launched the March 8 Campaign in Defense of Women's Rights on February 27 in Beijing, calling upon women's federations at all levels to guide women in China to respect, learn, observe and employ law by uniting the over 700,000 women's activity centers around the country.

In the activity room at the women's activity center of Xiaoxin Village, located in Tongzhou District of Beijing, while women and the children were enjoying a drama produced and performed by the local residents to popularize legal knowledge, judges and lawyers who provide voluntary services gave thorough explanations of the legal issues involved. Song Xiuyan, vice president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, had a warm discussion with the women present at the event, about how to nurture the good habit of taking law as the standard of behavior and the solution to problems and conflicts.

The law promotion activities carried out at the Women's Home are popular among the local residents, bringing them legal knowledge and the idea of “rule by law,” as was revealed by some of the women in Xiaoxin Village. Having accumulated fundamental legal knowledge, the women there have tried different ways to participate in multi-level governance according to law in different sectors, such as women's council, women's support groups and women's voluntary services.

According to reports, women's federations at various levels will, following this March 8th event, organize judges, prosecutors, lawyers, experts and scholars to provide law promotion activities to thousands of grassroots women's activity centers around the country. Meanwhile, a rights protection service guide, the 12338 service hotline for women and a specialized website as well will be available to these organizations. Given face-to-face and remote online services, the Women's Homes shall improve their ability to protect the rights and interests of women. They will also encourage each woman to join in and participate with the cultural activities aiming at spreading legal knowledge and to transform themselves into fine examples of respecting, learning, observing and employing law.
