President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) Shen Yueyue inspected women's work in southwest China's Guizhou Province from January 6-9, 2014, during which she stressed that she should continue to further explore ACWF's role in alleviating the poverty of women.

Shen went to Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province, and several other counties. During her travels, she talked to grassroots women in farms, factories and women's service centers, learning more about their living, employment conditions and needs. She assessed their implementation of the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee which was held last November. Shen also visited the left-behind children whose parents have left them in their hometowns to work in the cities and the empty-nesters whose children no longer live with them and inspected women's and children's rights and information service stations.

Shen also affirmed the Guizhou Qianling Women Domestic Service Company, an example of Guizhou Women's Federation's collaboration with local domestic corporations. She encouraged this kind of collaboration since it promotes women's employment and entrepreneurship practice.

Another example of Guizhou Women's Federation's collaboration with local domestic corporations is the "Miao Jiang Folk Art Garden". This project is designed to help Miao women (an ethnic group in southwest China) to produce and sell their art products.

Shen insisted that women's federations should continue to provide this kind of innovative services for women to increase urban and rural women's job opportunities and income and to create a harmonious environment.

Shen further stressed the need to rely on grassroots women's organizations in strengthening the guidance of mass women's education, multi level technical skills trainings and increasing employment opportunities to promote local economy.

Shen listened to the work report on January 9th and fully affirmed the achievements of women and children work in Guizhou Province. Shen also made a speech in which she pointed out that women's federations should continue leading women in their pursuit of the 'Chinese Dream' under the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress, and implement the mass line campaign to better connect with women.

She stressed that women should continue 'holding up half the sky' in the process of the deepening reform and opening up of the nation. Shen stressed that it’s important to utilize all sorts of social resources to eliminate the poverty of women and children. Shen also added that it is vital to listen to grassroots women to find out what they really need. Furthermore, the collaboration with the local level women’s federation is also important.

Other attendees of the trip were Vice President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF Yu Hongqiu, and representatives from the Guizhou government and Guizhou Women's Federation.
