Bamu Yubumu was known as a migrant mother in an iconic photo during a Spring Festival travel rush 11 years ago. Recently, she and her husband Wuqi Shiqie have embarked on their new career of sea cucumber cultivation in the coastal Fujian Province. During this year's Spring Festival holiday, Bamu and her husband returned to their hometown in southwest China's Sichuan for a visit. Amid slack season of agricultural production, instead of idling at home, Bamu has been busy preparing clothing and schoolbags for her children, as well as strolling around hometown with her husband. "As we are about to finish the sea cucumber cultivation in two months, my husband and I plan to start our own business in hometown by then," Bamu expressed her hope to start a farm, cultivating livestock to boost income. For Bamu's children, they also ring in the New Year with hopes and dreams. Bamu's eldest daughter Wuqi Labumu wants to be a music teacher, and she decided to learn music during spare time. Wang Xueyi, her second eldest daughter, also a class monitor, wants to be a teacher and to help her classmates to get good grades. Wuqi Buji, her son, wants to read more books. And Wang Xueqi, Bamu's youngest daughter, said she just wants to stay with Bamu in 2021. The year 2021 marks Bamu family's first year to shake off poverty. "No matter how tough life is, we gotta strive forward." Bamu said. [Xinhua/Zhou Ke]
