A deputy from the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) has called for an integration of people-centered development with more respect shown to women's creativity in the new era at the ongoing national legislative session in Beijing.

Tan Lin, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, made the remarks when she joined a panel discussion with NPC deputies from northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on March 6.

"Just as Premier Li Keqiang illustrated in his government work report at the opening of the first session of the 13th NPC on March 5, the nation, under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has risen to the challenge, worked hard to press ahead, implemented the five-sphere integrated plan and the four-pronged comprehensive strategy, set a new stage for advancing the reform and opening-up drive, made great strides in socialist modernization, and managed historical achievements in its social and economic development over the past five years," Tan said in her speech at the panel discussion.

Tan continued that she felt proud and inspired to witness the noticeable progress made by the country in constantly improving the public's living standards.

For instance, more than 68 million people have been lifted out of poverty during the five years since the first session of the 12th NPC. Meanwhile, over 900 million people have been covered by social old-age pension schemes and more than 1.35 billion people have become beneficiaries of basic health insurance plans.

Tan emphasized that Premier Li's government work report has made a comprehensive arrangement in the implementation of the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress held in October last year, the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up initiative, and the fulfillment of targets by government employees this year.

The government work report has fully demonstrated its resolve  to do more to directly benefit the people, address the difficulties that affect their lives, and ensure that their basic living needs are met, whilst following the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and putting an emphasis on better serving the public.

Tan said that she became emboldened when Premier Li talked about the implementation of the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, the promotion of gender equality, the protection of women and children's lawful rights and interests, and the emphasis on giving full play to the functions undertaken by women's federations and other people's organizations in the government work report.

She suggested that the nation should attach more importance to unlocking women's capabilities and potential in creativity amid its pursuit for high-quality development and the consistent improvement of people's livelihoods.
