The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) organized five recently-honored National March 8th Red Banner Award Winners to take part in a special symposium in Tsinghua University on March 6, aimed at spreading positive spirits among female faculty members and students.

The outstanding women included Yan Jinxiu, deputy general-manager and researcher of the China Railway Academy; Yu Xiaqiu, secretary of the Party committee of Changjiang Village, Jin'gang Town, Zhangjiagang City, east China's Jiangsu Province; Lin Min, director and designer of the 1st Department of Long March 5 Measuring System of the 1st Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation; and, Yan Ning, an expert from the university's School of Medicine.

At the symposium, the speakers respectively shared their experiences in the process of pursuing their dreams over the past few years.

When recalling being elected as vice-president of the International Tunneling Association, Yan said that the major opportunities provided by her company have helped her a lot in her growth.

From believing that only studying hard can change a rural woman's destiny to becoming a successful business founder, Yu has used her own experiences to prove that anything can be accomplished as long as people stick to their goals and make constant efforts.

When asked how to handle the balance between family and jobs, Yu said women must cultivate their characters such as self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement, which are significant to obtaining the life that they want to lead.

Having spent around 12 years researching carrier rockets, Lin shared her "secrets" about how to effectively learn and make enough preparations for future work.

The fast development of the national economy has provided financial support for the research work, said Yan. She commented that her achievements are down to the best scientific and technological conditions offered by her college and her excellent team.

In addition, Yan called for the equal development opportunities between women and men in the field of research.

After listening to several female representatives, Shi Yuanchun, president of the university's Institute of the Global Innovation and Zhang Wenxia, professor of the university's Department of Foreign Languages, as well as college student representatives, spoke to express their feelings.

Gao Chenchen, postgraduate of the university's School of Social Sciences, said the women have closely connected their growth with the country's development.

The nation has attached great importance to caring for women's development while providing new opportunities in current times, Gao added. Hence, she remarked that young people should struggle together to make contributions to the progress of society.

Huang Cheng, another postgraduate, commented that all people should learn from the distinguished women's fine characters such as passion for work and the spirit of study as well as working hard with great responsibility.

Xia Jie, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Xia expressed her hope that women nationwide can take the example of these role models to make arduous endeavors.

Furthermore, Xia urged women to make dedications to advancing gender equality and contributing positive efforts to the realization of the "Chinese Dream" of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wang Xiqin, vice-president of the university, participated in the event. Wang Yan, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the university and chairperson of the Trade Union, presided over the activity.
