Countless officials of women's federations and communities across the country are now making their own contributions to the prevention and control efforts of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP).

Let's have a look at some of the women officials at grassroots level who are pioneering in the battle against NCP.

Women's Federation President Mobilizes Officials to Help Make Masks

Xia Lianying is the president of the Women's Federation of Kangtai Residential Community of Zhoupu Town in Shanghai.

As the NCP sweeps across the county, facial masks are becoming scarce in many areas. Xia and officials of the community's women's federation therefore teamed up to make masks for residents.

When they finish the daytime epidemic prevention work of the community, they go to the factory of Shanghai Chengge Safety Protection Co. Ltd. to voluntarily help make masks.

"It is expected that the output of masks of the company will reach 100,000 pieces in February and 230,000 pieces in March, providing strong support to the prevention and control of the epidemic," Xia said, adding that the community committee will further support the production of masks and will mobilize more women to join in the voluntary service.

Village First Secretary Organizes Party Members to Control NCP Spread

Xie Min is first secretary of the Nanxi Village of Fuliang County in East China's Jiangxi Province.

Faced with the spreading epidemic, Xie is fighting together with village officials against the NCP. Since the epidemic preventive equipments in Nanxi are in short supply, Xie contacted her relatives and friends to raise masks and disinfectant for villagers.

Xie organized Party members to establish an NCP prevention and control team to respond to any emergencies. She also leads village officals to adopt various measures to publicize the methods of epidemic prevention and control to raise local villagers' self-protection awareness.

Women's Federation Official Rapidly Responds to Control Work

Yang Qionghua is vice-president of the Women's Federation of Sipaishan Township of Gengma Dai and Wa Autonomous County in Lincang City, Southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Yang, as a minority official in the village, has worked at the grassroots level for 27 years. When the epidemic broke out, Yang and women Party members of the village rapidly set up a team to publicize epidemic prevention and control information to the villagers via a WeChat group.

They patrolled around the village to publicize relevant information and monitor villagers' health conditions. They also paid visits to disadvantaged groups, including the elderly, widowers, widows and orphans, trying their best to ease the locals' anxiety.

Given the shortage of epidemic preventive equipment, Yang also led her team to make facial masks by themselves.

Community Worker Buys Daily Necessities for Residents in Need

Zu Xuyu is a worker of Chenguang Community in Urumqi, capital city of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Meeting the need for epidemic prevention work, she takes on the job of running errands and purchasing on residents' behalf.

"Some households in the community are quarantined and some elderly people find it inconvenient to go out, so I bring daily supplies to them," Zu said, adding that no matter how trifle a resident's need is it is a big thing for her.
