In the lead-up to the recent 19th National Congress of Communist Party of China (CPC), journalists from China Women's News gave interviews to 19 households that President Xi Jinping had visited in the past five years.

The Congress was held from October 18-24 in Beijing.

'President Xi's words are inspiring'

Li Caifang, a villager in Zhengding County, north China's Hebei Province, said, "Xi cares about the well-being of the people and does practical work for us.

"It was inspiring to hear that further people-beneficial policies will be implemented. Among those, it is also touching to hear that he said that more attention will be paid to improving the national health policy, so as to ensure the delivery of comprehensive health services for citizens throughout their lives."

Zhuang Bao, a Beijing native, said, "Xi's report is pleasing. Only a prosperous nation can guarantee a happy life for every family.

"In the future, my family will help more people in need, encouraging a harmonious society to make the country strong and beautiful."

Tang Zongxiu, 71, a native of Baoding City, Hebei Province, said, "I am happy from the bottom of my heart because I know he is talking about good things to make our lives better."

Hai Guobao and his wife from northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region now have medical insurance and their children are engaged in professional careers.

Hai said, "I'm confident that my family's life will be better."

Cao Liuren, a villager from north China's Shanxi Province, has moved into a new house with two bedrooms.

Cao said, "Xi said the rural land contract practices will remain stable and unchanged on a long-term basis; and, the current round of contracts will be extended for another 30 years upon expiration. That is good news for us."

'I will help my fellows become prosperous'

In the past three years, people from Zhangzhuang Village, with its amazing rural scenery, in Lankao County in central China's Henan Province, have experienced great changes as they have been lifted out of poverty.

Zuo Xiufa, whose hometown in east China's Jiangxi Province was poverty-stricken, said, "I have a well-off life now and I will help my fellows become prosperous together."

"The new thoughts and measures addressed in the congress, especially with people-enriching policies, have inspired us to work harder," said Wang Zhiqiang, a villager from southwest China's Guizhou Province.

"My farm garden has developed well as rural tourism has grown. After listening to Xi's report, I set a new goal. I want to manage my garden as a long-standing brand and help lift more people out of poverty."

'We will keep in mind Xi's trust'

"Xi mentioned 'public wellbeing' and 'protecting and restoring ecosystems' several times in his report. This made me remember that Xi praised my hometown as being clean and ancient when he came to our village," said Li Dechang, a local from southwest China's Yunnan.

"We will keep in mind his trust. We will value Erhai Lake same way that we value our own eyes."

In the future, Li has a plan that he wants to build a small museum on his land for showing the history of the village and thus attract more tourists to experience ethnic culture.

Yuan Qizhong, from east China's Zhejiang Province, said, "We will keep it in mind that ‘Lucid waters and lush mountains are valuable assets' and pursue the green development of our hometown."

‘We welcome Xi to our hometown again'

Li Longzhi, a villager from northeast China's Jilin Province, said over 200 households in the village have updated their facilities, following President Xi's demand for a "toilet revolution".

Li said, "I'm so happy to hear that the nation will ‘adopt policies and foster a social environment in which senior citizens are respected, cared for, and live happily'.

"Over the past two years, our village has become more beautiful and attracted more visitors. We are having better lives and I hope Xi can come here again to see the changes."

In 2013, Xi visited Shibadong Village, in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Prefecture in central China's Hunan Province, and posed the idea of "alleviating poverty with targeted measures".

Later, the village witnessed a great change and the average income of each person reached over 8,000 yuan (U.S.$ 1,230).

Villager Shi Chengfu said, "Xi doesn't need to worry about us. We have shaken off poverty. We hope he will revisit us and see the changes in our village one day."
